The next – larger – iMac could be an iMac Pro, which will be released in the first half of 2022. This is what a leaker is now claiming and giving details about the specifications.

Apple officially discontinued its Intel-based iMac Pro on March 19, removing the product from its website as the last stocks were sold. A new rumor suggests a replacement device could be released in just a few months. According to the leaker @Dylandkt Apple is preparing an "iMac (Pro)". Saturday's tweet suggests that the next iMac could be a "Pro" model, due out in the first half of 2022. The post goes on to say that the model will be similar to the 24-inch iMac and Pro Display XDR, with a mini-LED display and ProMotion support. The screen is said to have dark edges. But there is no indication of a notch, which is used on the MacBook Pro models, for example.

New iMac (Pro) could rely on M1 Pro and M1 Max

According to the informant, Face ID has even been tested but not confirmed for the model. As for the technical specifications, the device is said to be based on an M1 Pro or M1 Max with 16 GB of memory in the base model and 512 GB of storage. The port selection includes HDMI, USB-C, an SD card and an Ethernet port. In addition, Dylan claims that the device is currently referred to internally as the "iMac Pro". However, it is not clear whether Apple will officially introduce the new model under this name. According to the leaker, the model will most likely have a 27-inch display and replace the existing 27-inch iMac. Whether Dylan will be right again in the end remains to be seen, of course, as always. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
