While rumors about the next iPhone generation are slowly increasing, reports about the iPhones planned for 2020 keep surfacing. Once again, it's about the display.

The Wall Street Journal had already reported that Apple plans to equip all iPhone models with OLED displays from 2020 - including the successor to the iPhone XR. Now the Digitimes portal has found out details about the sizes of the devices.

New sizes indicate design changes

The three iPhone models in 2020 are set to appear in new screen sizes: 5.42″, 6.06″ and 6.67″. The current iPhone line-up includes a 6.1″ iPhone XR, a 5.8″ iPhone XS and a 6.5″ iPhone XS Max – this pattern is set to remain in fall 2019. According to the report, these new sizes indicate significant design changes to the individual iPhone devices. The 6.67″ model would be the largest iPhone ever – at least in terms of screen size. It remains to be seen whether the iPhone as a whole will grow – it will probably not be larger than the current iPhone XS Max. The 6.06″ iPhone would be the successor to the current iPhone XR – here too, the device size is unlikely to change much. However, the switch from LCD to OLED would be a big step forward. Since OLED displays do not have a backlight, they can switch off individual pixels independently of one another - this is what makes it possible to display true black tones.

However, the 5.42" device is of particular interest. This would mean that it is a smaller version of the iPhone XS. According to Digitimes, this model will undergo a new manufacturing process by LG or Samsung - the aim is to reduce the costs associated with the display. This means that the small iPhone model could be part of the entry-level segment in the future.

iPhone 2019 remain almost unchanged

Apple has to prepare suppliers for future plans many months in advance – most leaks or rumors come from supplier circles, so the current report from Digitimes should also be realistic. Although the platform is AirPower While it has always been wrong, it has also had successes in the past. The successors to the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR are planned for 2019. The overall look of iPhones is not expected to change much this year compared to 2018, but there will be a few new features. For example, users will be able to put their AirPods and other accessories on the back of a charging 2019 iPhones There will also be a camera upgrade. The premium models will be equipped with a triple camera The successor to the iPhone XR will reportedly come with a dual camera. All three iPhone models are expected to be introduced in September this year.
