The iPhone 17 is casting its shadow ahead, even though the iPhone 16 has only just launched. The rumor mill is already bubbling and some exciting details have leaked out. Below you will find out what is currently being rumored about the iPhone 17 - from possible innovations such as ProMotion on all models to Face ID under the display on the Pro versions.

As is often the case, most of the information comes from well-connected analysts and leakers. Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, and leaker Ice Universe have already commented on the features of the iPhone 17. Their assessments are often based on information from the supply chain, which lends them a certain degree of credibility.

ProMotion for all iPhone 17 models

One of the most exciting rumors is the introduction of ProMotion on all iPhone 17 models. Until now, this technology, which enables a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, was only found in the Pro models. With the iPhone 17, the basic and future Slim models could now also offer this smoother display. ProMotion is particularly noticeable with fast animations or scrolling. In addition, it is energy efficient because the refresh rate is adjusted depending on usage.

Face ID under the display for Pro models

A further step forward is expected for the Pro models: Face ID could move under the display. According to Ross Young, the technology will be introduced in the Pro models of the iPhone 17. The camera and sensors would then be invisible when not in use. This would enable the design without Dynamic Island, which ensures a seamless screen.

LTPO displays and always-on display

The display technology could also go a step further in the two cheaper models. It is speculated that Apple could use LTPO displays (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide). This technology allows an adaptive refresh rate and could also enable an "always-on" display. This would allow basic information such as the time and notifications to be visible at all times without the screen having to be fully activated.

Schedule for Face ID under the display

While under-display Face ID is expected for the iPhone 17 Pro models, there are indications that this technology may not be widely adopted until later, with some analysts predicting that it could take until 2028 for all iPhones to have this feature.

iPhone 17: These features could come

The iPhone 17 could bring some exciting innovations, especially in terms of display and Face ID. While ProMotion is likely for all models, the Face ID under the display seems to be reserved for the Pro versions. As always, it remains to be seen which features will actually find their way into the final version of the iPhone 17. In any case, it remains exciting. (Photo by Unsplash / Rohan)
