Rumors surrounding the iPhone 17 Pro continue to gain momentum. A new image is currently attracting attention, revealing a possible change to the MagSafe design. The image was shared on the Chinese platform Weibo and shows cases apparently intended for the next iPhone generation. The iPhone 17 Pro features a modified MagSafe layout, particularly noticeable on the iPhone 17 Pro—in contrast to the standard models, where everything remains the same.
The image was posted by a user named "UnclePan," who has provided accurate descriptions of Apple products in the past. He shared a photo of third-party cases for four different models: the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The MagSafe layout of these cases suggests possible changes to the design of the devices themselves. A deviation from the previous magnet arrangement is particularly noticeable in the Pro models. It's probably no coincidence that Apple has decided to implement this change exclusively for the higher-priced devices this generation.
MagSafe circle on iPhone 17 Pro no longer complete
The most noticeable change concerns the MagSafe design of the cases for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Instead of a complete circle – as seen on previous models – the magnetic ring on the cases is interrupted. What exactly this means for functionality is still unclear. It's possible that Apple is restructuring the magnet arrangement to align accessories differently or enable new features. On the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air, however, the MagSafe layout remains unchanged. This difference could be a further indication of the technical distinction between the base and Pro models.
Apple logo will probably be placed lower
There's also speculation that the Apple logo on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro models is positioned lower than on previous generations. This is apparently due to a larger camera bulge. The repositioned logo ensures that the logo remains visible—even when the device is in a case with a MagSafe ring. This suggests that Apple has redesigned the entire layout on the back.
MagSafe outline remains visible only on the cases
As with previous models, the iPhone 17 Pro will likely not have a MagSafe circle directly visible on the device. The marking is only applied to the cases to ensure correct alignment of accessories. The back design remains simple—apart from the camera and logo.
How reliable is the source?
In the past, "UnclePan" had correctly predicted, among other things, that the Apple Watch Series 7 would be released in 41 mm and 45 mm sizes. His accuracy isn't perfect, however. In this case, however, his statements are consistent with other independent sources. This increases the likelihood that the information about the new MagSafe design is correct.
When will the iPhone 17 Pro be introduced?
The iPhone 17 series is expected to be unveiled in mid-September—about six weeks from now. More details are likely to leak out before then, but the current MagSafe change is one of the first visible signs that Apple is fine-tuning its Pro models. It remains to be seen what technical improvements the iPhone 17 Pro will bring in addition to this design tweak.
Leak shows clear design strategy for the iPhone 17 Pro
The iPhone 17 Pro could come with a slightly revised MagSafe design. The magnets will likely no longer form a complete circle – at least on the Pro models. The Apple logo is also said to be positioned lower, presumably due to a larger camera module. The source of the leak isn't new to the scene and has been correct on several occasions, even if it's not infallible. The modified casing structure is a clear indication that Apple intends to further differentiate between standard and Pro models in the next generation – both visually and functionally.
