Just weeks before the expected unveiling of the iPhone 17 series, new clues have emerged about possible color options for the upcoming Pro models. At the center of the picture is an unusual orange component that could hint at a new direction in Apple's color choices.
The color palette of iPhone Pro models has been mostly restrained in recent years, limited to classic tones like black, gray, silver, and occasionally blue. Now there are signs that Apple is trying something new with the iPhone 17 Pro: A metallic orange shade reminiscent of copper can be seen in new leaks. This color has never been seen on an iPhone before.
Leak shows five possible colors
Leaker Sonny Dickson recently posted images on social media that allegedly show rear camera lens covers for the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Five color options are shown: black, gray, silver, dark blue, and orange. The dark blue lens cover could indicate that Apple is bringing back the Blue Titanium variant, which was last used on the iPhone 15 Pro. The most striking of the five options, however, is the orange cover. It is significantly different from all previous color variants and is strongly reminiscent of copper. Apple has not used this color for any iPhone so far—neither in the standard nor the Pro series.
Authenticity of the leak still unclear
It's currently unclear whether the released components are actually part of the final design. However, Dickson has shared early details about new iPhones in the past that later turned out to be accurate – including cases, dummy models, or components. The release fits the usual pattern: Parts or prototypes are regularly released to the public about two months before the Apple event, often via suppliers or accessory manufacturers.
Classification of the possible copper color
A copper-like color would stand out significantly from the current color spectrum. Apple has experimented with exclusive colors for the Pro models in the past, such as Pacific Blue, Deep Purple, and most recently Natural Titanium. Orange or copper would be a clear break from the previous color policy—warmer, more striking, possibly bolder than previous tones. Whether the color will ultimately end up in the official lineup remains to be seen. However, the fact that the color appears on a component intended for Pro models speaks to a serious design option.
Outlook on the presentation in September
Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series in September. Further leaks could follow in the coming weeks, providing more clarity on the final color lineup. Until then, it remains unclear whether the copper-colored lens cover is just a prototype or a hint at a new color variant of the iPhone 17 Pro.
iPhone 17 Pro: Orange could hint at a new design direction
A recent leak shows camera covers in five colors, including a striking orange. This color could hint at a new copper finish for the iPhone 17 Pro—a first for Apple. Nothing has been confirmed yet, but the source is considered reliable. It will be revealed in two months at the latest whether the iPhone 17 Pro will indeed appear in a new, copper-like color.
