Reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed earlier this year that Apple is working on an improved ultra-wide-angle lens for the Pro versions of the iPhone 13 models, which are scheduled to be unveiled in the second half of 2021. In a new letter to investors, Kuo reiterated that the iPhone 13 Pro will have an ultra-wide-angle lens with autofocus.

The current ultra-wide lenses used by Apple are fixed-focus, meaning they cannot focus on a specific object. With autofocus, users will be able to adjust the lens to choose where they want to focus, just like wide-angle and telephoto lenses. In addition to autofocus, the analyst also claims that the iPhone 13 Pro's ultra-wide lens will have six elements instead of five, which will presumably result in better images and videos.

iPhone 13: Reports suggest launch in September

With the iPhone 12, Apple the ultra-wide-angle lens with Deep Fusion and Night Mode has been significantly improved. But it still doesn't offer the same quality as the others, especially in low light. Kuo also explains that only the Pro models of this year's iPhones will receive the improved ultra-wide-angle lens. As far as he knows, Apple is expected to expand the feature to all models next year. Rumors suggest that the iPhone 13 or iPhone 12S (the name is still unclear) will have a similar design to the iPhone 12. However, the new generation will be equipped with a new processor, a smaller notch, better cameras and expanded 5G support. The Pro models could get a 120Hz ProMotion display as part of this. In terms of the launch, current reports suggest that Apple will present the new devices as usual in September this year. (Photo by Javi Ruiz / Bigstockphoto)
