iOS 19 simplifies the use of public Wi-Fi

iOS 19 is expected to be one of Apple's biggest software updates in years. In addition to major design and user interface changes, the update also includes smaller improvements that can significantly save time in everyday life. One of these features concerns access to public Wi-Fi networks—and that's exactly what this article is about.

Anyone who regularly uses public Wi-Fi knows the problem: In a hotel, gym, or café, you have to fill out a form on every single device before you can access the internet. This takes time and is simply annoying in the long run. This is precisely where Apple is addressing this with iOS 19. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman , who is regularly well-informed about Apple's plans, there will be a new feature that will significantly simplify this process. It involves the automatic synchronization of public Wi-Fi logins within your Apple ecosystem.

What exactly does the new Wi-Fi feature in iOS 19 bring?

With iOS 19, it will be possible to connect to a public Wi-Fi network on a single Apple device and fill out any required web form. This information will then be automatically transferred to your other devices. This eliminates the need to send your iPhone, iPad, and MacBook through the same process individually. So, if you're in a hotel, office, or gym, you enter your data once on one device—Apple takes care of the rest. Syncing will take place over the existing infrastructure, presumably via iCloud Keychain, Apple's password and network syncing service.

How does this work technically?

Apple uses cross-device communication within its own ecosystem for this. Once you connect to a new public Wi-Fi network and complete the necessary web forms or CAPTCHAs on one device, these credentials are stored encrypted. They are then available on your other devices as well, without you having to enter anything again. Mark Gurman describes it like this: You log in to the hotel Wi-Fi network with your iPhone and have to fill out a web form. Your other Apple devices, such as your iPad or MacBook, then automatically connect to the same network without you having to do anything else on those devices.

Why is this useful?

This feature saves you time and reduces unnecessary repetition. Especially if you regularly work with multiple devices or are on the go a lot, accessing public networks becomes significantly more convenient. It's a small but meaningful improvement to the user experience. It's precisely these kinds of details that make collaboration within the Apple ecosystem more efficient.

When will iOS 19 be released and what else is planned?

iOS 19 is expected in fall 2025. Apple is expected to officially unveil the update at WWDC in June. The first developer beta should be released in June, with a public beta typically following a few weeks later. Wi-Fi syncing is expected to be part of the new system from the start. According to Gurman, iOS 19 is one of the most comprehensive overhauls Apple has made in recent years. In addition to this Wi-Fi feature, many other innovations are in the works—some major, others more subtle, but helpful in everyday life.

More convenience with public Wi-Fi with iOS 19

Automatic Wi-Fi synchronization isn't a spectacular innovation, but it solves a concrete everyday problem. You only have to connect to a public network once, saving you the repeated login process on your other devices. iOS 19 thus brings more convenience in exactly the situations where you need it – and demonstrates once again how Apple pays attention to small details that make a difference.
