The new Apple Watch SE 3 is currently being prepared, and it looks like there are a few interesting changes. There's a lot going on, especially with the display sizes. If you're interested in the next generation of the more affordable Apple Watch, you'll find all the important details that have been revealed so far here.

Apple continues its tradition of offering a more affordable alternative to its more expensive models. The Apple Watch SE is aimed at users who don't want to miss out on key features but are willing to pay a more attractive price. With the Apple Watch SE 3, Apple could now introduce small but significant improvements in several areas. The new information comes from, among others, display analyst Ross Young, who is known for providing reliable insights into upcoming Apple products.

New display sizes: 1.6 inches and 1.8 inches

According to Ross Young, the displays for the Apple Watch SE 3 are already in production. The new sizes are said to be 1.6 inches and 1.8 inches. This would be a slight change from the current Apple Watch SE 2 models, which are available in 40 mm and 44 mm versions. However, the deviations could be due to rounding differences. It is assumed that Apple will stick with the current sizes, i.e. again offer a 40 mm and a 44 mm version, but may also switch to 41 mm and 45 mm, as introduced with the Apple Watch Series 7. This could increase the display area without significantly increasing the case itself. It is also possible that Apple will develop a new case design that optimizes the display area and makes the edges slimmer.

Based on the Apple Watch Series 6 or something new?

Traditionally, the SE series is based on older models. The current Apple Watch SE 2 largely uses the design of the Apple Watch Series 6. Apple could again use a similar concept with the SE 3, adopting the design of the Series 6. However, there is also speculation that Apple could dare to go a bit further. Theoretically, a new design that isn't directly based on an existing model would be possible. This would give the SE 3 a more distinctive appearance and could be specifically tailored to the needs of its target audience, for example, with a more compact case and a larger display.

Rumors about a hard plastic case

Another rumor concerns the material of the new Apple Watch SE 3. Apple is allegedly working on a version with a hard plastic case. This version could be available in several colors and would be aimed specifically at children or younger users. Whether this model will actually hit the market has not yet been confirmed. Apple may have abandoned this idea or saved it for later versions. If the hard plastic model is actually implemented, the SE 3 would position itself even more strongly as an affordable entry-level smartwatch. In terms of price, it would then potentially be even more attractive and more robust for everyday use, which could be particularly interesting for younger target groups.

More compact housing and modern design

If Apple does launch the Apple Watch SE 3 with a 1.6-inch display in a case measuring approximately 38 mm and a 1.8-inch display in a 42 mm case, this would mean that the SE 3 would be smaller overall. At the same time, narrower bezels would increase the display area. This would result in a more modern appearance, similar to the current premium models. A more compact model with more display area would be a clear advantage, especially for users with narrow wrists or for children, for whom the SE series is also aimed (via X).

Planned market launch

If all goes according to plan, Apple will unveil the new Apple Watch SE 3 in September. It's expected to be announced alongside the Apple Watch Series 11 and the Apple Watch Ultra 3. A sales launch shortly after the presentation would be typical, so you can expect availability in September or October 2025. Until then, it will be interesting to see if all the rumors are true or if Apple has one or two more surprises up its sleeve.

Apple Watch SE 3: Small steps with impact

The Apple Watch SE 3 probably won't be a revolution, but it could score points with some thoughtful improvements. The new display sizes, a more modern casing, and the option of new materials like hard plastic make it particularly attractive to many users. If you're looking for a powerful, affordable, and somewhat more compact smartwatch, the Apple Watch SE 3 is worth keeping an eye on. (Image: Shutterstock / Ryan Photo Capture)
