Apple is reportedly working on an “Apple Studio Display” that will have a higher resolution of 7K than the current Pro Display XDR.
It was previously reported that Apple is working on a successor to the Pro Display XDR. A new report now states that it will be called the "Apple Studio Display." However, details are scarce at this time. It's not yet clear whether the device will be a direct successor to the Pro Display XDR or positioned as a higher-resolution option. There's also no indication of a price or launch date. Reportedly, the display is known internally by the codename J327. It has previously been reported that a display with this codename will feature an A13 processor. As reported by 9to5mac first found out, the J327 monitor will be a 7K monitor with a dedicated Apple Silicon processor.
Apple Studio Display: Which size will Apple choose?
The current Pro Display XDR is a 6K monitor and has a 32-inch screen size with a resolution of 6,016 x 3,384 pixels. Apple could build the "Apple Studio Display" in the same 32-inch size but with a higher pixel density of 245 ppi. Of course, it could also maintain the same pixel density of 218 ppi as the current display. But then it would have to be approximately 36 inches in size. Previous reports about Apple manufacturing new displays claimed that LG was producing a trio of monitors. For example, in January 2021, it was reported that Apple was working on a lower-cost version of the Pro Display XDR. What Apple will ultimately present to us remains to be seen.
