Apple wants to reinvent gaming on its platforms. The iOS 19 update will introduce a new, standalone game app that will not only replace the existing Game Center but also offer significantly more features. Users of macOS, iPadOS, and tvOS will also benefit. The goal is to create a central hub for all games—whether from the App Store, Apple Arcade, or other sources.

If you use Apple devices and enjoy gaming, the new Games app might be of interest to you. Apple is currently working on revising its gaming strategy. Instead of just managing friends lists and achievements via Game Center, iOS 19 will offer a much more comprehensive solution. The new app will be pre-installed on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV and is designed to make games more accessible – including those from third-party developers. The launch is planned for June, with the rollout scheduled for September.

What exactly is planned?

According to a Bloomberg report , Apple is working on a multiplatform app specifically designed for gaming. The application will provide a central interface for launching games. It will also include the following features:

  • Display and manage achievements in the game
  • Leaderboards where you can compete with others
  • editorial content, such as news and recommendations
  • Communication functions for exchanging information with other players

The app will be installed automatically on devices that support iOS 19, macOS 16, or tvOS 19. You don't have to download it from the App Store yourself.

Game Center is replaced

The new app will completely replace the current Game Center. While Game Center has been Apple's central platform for gaming-related activities for years, it has received few updates recently. Many users have used it little or not at all. With the new solution, Apple apparently wants to provide more clarity while simultaneously offering a better user experience.

Consistent gaming experience across all platforms

The games app will work not only on the iPhone, but also on the iPad, Mac, and Apple TV. What's particularly exciting is that on the Mac, games downloaded outside of the Mac App Store can also be integrated. This opens Apple's app to a wider range of sources, not just content from its own ecosystem.

Integration of Apple Arcade and third-party games

The new app isn't intended exclusively for Apple Arcade. While Apple will use the opportunity to further promote its own game subscription, third-party games available in the App Store will also be part of the platform. The goal seems to be to present the entire range of games more clearly and make it easier for you to search for and access games.

Presentation and publication

Apple will officially unveil the new gaming app at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9, 2025. The release will then take place in September, along with the public launch of iOS 19, macOS 16, and tvOS 19. From then on, you will automatically find the app on supported devices.

Apple makes gaming clearer and more accessible

With the new Games app, Apple is taking a clear step toward a more modern gaming experience. Instead of an outdated Game Center, there will now be a central hub that's not only more functional but also more clearly laid out. For you as a user, this means less searching, more direct access to content, and a better overview of your games and achievements – across all devices. Whether you use Apple Arcade or prefer third-party games, it doesn't matter. Apple is opening the door to more order and convenience in the gaming world. (Image: Shutterstock / DenPhotos)
