According to a new report, streaming service Netflix seems to be considering implementing Apple's Spatial Audio feature.

A feature called "Spatial Audio" was added to iOS 14. For spatial sound, Apple uses dynamic head tracking and the position of the iPhone or iPad to create a cinematic surround sound, a sound experience that makes it feel like you are right in the movie. The gyroscope and accelerometer in the AirPods Pro analyze head movements. The comparison then helps to adjust the sounds and reproduce them in the right direction in the earpiece. Apple applying the whole thing as follows:

3D audio with dynamic head tracking gives the movie or video you're watching a cinema-like surround sound, as if the sound was coming from all directions. The sound field stays with the device and the voice stays with the actor or scene on the screen.

Netflix: Spatial Audio support could launch in spring

In addition to the AirPods Pro, the brand new AirPods Max also support the function. Now Netflix reportedly wants to support the feature in its own iOS app. Citing an anonymous Netflix employee, iPhoneSoft reports that Netflix has been testing support for Spatial Audio on iPhone and iPad since the end of last year. is called it in the article:

This innovation has been tested at Netflix since last December, according to a very well-informed source. This person is actually working on the development for the company in the USA, but wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons. According to him, the streaming market leader should launch this innovation by spring with an initially limited catalog.

Since Spatial Audio has already been implemented in iOS 14 and iPadOS 14, Netflix only needs to make an adjustment and integrate the support. Therefore, the update should not pose a major challenge for the streaming service. On offer: MagSafe Duo charger 18 percent cheaper (Photo by dominiquejames / Bigstockphoto)
