Why the iPhone 11 was released without 5G

While the competition is already installing 5G modems in new devices, Apple is obviously taking its time – and there are several reasons for this, as a recent article shows.

The 5G network is currently in an early phase of construction and Apple knows this - that's why neither the iPhone 11 nor the iPhone 11 Pro series have a corresponding chip - all three devices continue to use LTE. This caused anger among many fans. However, Apple's approach is anything but backwards as some claim. In a recent report, CNET took up the topic and highlighted two major problems with 5G. A 5G-capable smartphone must have two components - this is the only way it can connect to the new network. Due to this fact, a lot of space inside the iPhone would be lost if Apple had already resorted to 5G compatibility. Furthermore, problems with smartphones that have 5G keep occurring.

Immature technology

High battery consumption and overheated smartphones are the unpleasant highlights. It is assumed that Apple is deliberately waiting for further development of this new technology for these reasons.

If the design is more compact next year and the device is more stable on a technical level, 5G integration in the iPhone 2020 should be quite realistic - but if these difficulties persist, Apple's reluctance in this area will certainly continue. (Photo by YAISTUDIO / Bigstockphoto)
