A reference to a yet-to-be-announced new Mac mini was discovered in the Studio Display's firmware, confirming rumors of an imminent update to the model.
The Mac mini was one of the first computers to switch to Apple Silicon. Recently, there have been rumors that it will be among the first to receive a second-generation M version. Developer Steve Troughton-Smith, who recently saw references to "realityOS" in the App Store logs, discovered has no further details. Previous reports have claimed that a new Mac mini will feature Apple's next generation of Apple Silicon processors.
When will Apple introduce the new Mac mini?
A model codenamed J473 would be based on the expected "M2" processor, while the more powerful model, codenamed J474, would feature the "M2 Pro" processor. The entry-level "M2" chip is said to be based on Apple's A15 processor. It will feature the same eight-core CPU as the current M1 Mac mini, with the GPU increased to 10 cores. Reportedly, the "M2 Pro" will feature a 12-core CPU consisting of four efficiency cores and eight performance cores. Rumors suggest the new model could be unveiled at this year's WWDC on June 6.
