Sony is looking to expand its mobile gaming efforts, with a job posting suggesting the company intends to adapt various PlayStation franchises to be playable on iPhone and iPad in the future.
The job posting is seeking someone for the role of "Head of Mobile, PlayStation Studios, Sony Interactive Entertainment" in California. The job posting states that the candidate will "lead all aspects of expanding game development from consoles and PCs to mobile and live services," with a focus on "successfully adapting the most popular PlayStation franchises for mobile devices." The successful applicant will also be responsible for "building and scaling a team of mobile executives" and will serve as "the leader of this new business unit within PlayStation Studios." The job posting indicates that Sony is looking to advance its mobile gaming footprint.
PlayStation franchises on iPhone & iPad: Sony already has experience with mobile gaming
But it could take a while for the whole thing to be realized. As Eurogamer reported, the roadmap for the mobile business is expected to span three to five years. The PlayStation Mobile publishing label already exists and operates, having produced several mobile titles, including "Run Sackboy! Run!" and "Uncharted: Fortune Hunter." It also served as the publisher for several PC ports of PlayStation games, including "Horizon: Zero Dawn" and "Everybody's Gone to the Rapture." Previously, Sony had a stronger presence in mobile gaming, with its Xperia Play smartphone and its PlayStation Portable and PS Vita handheld game consoles. It is also possible to play PlayStation games via an iPhone or iPad by using the Remote Play app to stream from a console over the network. (Photo by inmicco / Bigstockphoto)
