New butterfly keyboard: It is tight

The repair service provider iFixit took apart the keyboard of Apple's new MacBook Pro. The guys found something interesting.

Rubber – a good protection?

When the keyboard was disassembled, they found a rubber membrane underneath each key. This is probably responsible for reducing the typing noise, among other things.
Apple said that the new keyboard does not prevent the known failures - they can still occur. iFixit However, is of the opinion that the rubber membrane makes it very difficult for dust and dirt particles to penetrate - which has been the reason for the many failures of previous models.

In March 2018, a patent from Apple by describing a protective mechanism that keeps contaminants out from under the keyboard. This patent reinforces iFixit's claim about the third generation butterfly keyboard.

Why is Apple silent about the change?

There is actually one possible reason, namely the class action lawsuits against the previous models from 2016/17. If the iGroup were to justify the change, it would be an indirect admission that the old keyboards were incorrectly designed. Something like that could have a negative impact on the ongoing proceedings. Ultimately, we are left with the option of speculation.
