Apple TV has ordered the thriller series "Guilty Creatures," starring Julia Garner, who will also serve as an executive producer. The three-time Emmy winner brings a true crime story from Florida to the screen, directed by an award-winning director. A release date has not yet been announced.

Apple continues to rely on big names and prestigious content for its streaming service, Apple TV – a strategy that has recently resulted in a roster of award-winning series. The newly announced series "Guilty Creatures" fits perfectly into this picture: a true-crime thriller for which Apple has secured Julia Garner, one of the most sought-after actresses of the moment. She not only plays the lead role but also co-produces the series.

What "Guilty Creatures" is about

The series is based on the true-crime book of the same name by author Mikita Brottman, which recounts a real murder case from Tallahassee, Florida. At its heart is a passionate, extramarital affair between two young, deeply religious lovers that culminates in murder. The series traces how the couple subsequently lives with the burden of the crime for eighteen years. Sarah DeLappe, known for the film "Bodies Bodies Bodies," is responsible for the screenplay adaptation.

Apple has not yet released any specific details about the plot beyond the book, additional cast members, or the start of production. A release date is also still unknown – given the early stage of development, it will likely be some time before the film is released.

Julia Garner and an award-winning creative team

The star of the production is Julia Garner. She became famous as Ruth Langmore in the Netflix series "Ozark," for which she won three Emmys and a Golden Globe. More recently, she has been increasingly present on the big screen: in the horror hit "Weapons" and as the Silver Surfer in "Fantastic Four: First Steps." With "Guilty Creatures," she returns to the true-crime and thriller genre that already defined "Ozark" and "Inventing Anna."

Behind the camera is Craig Gillespie, a director with a diverse portfolio ranging from "I, Tonya" and "Pam & Tommy" to the DC film "Supergirl"; he has previously directed episodes of "Your Friends & Neighbors" and "Physical" for Apple. Stuart Zicherman ("The Americans," "The Shrink Next Door") serves as showrunner. The series is produced by Tomorrow Studios, a partner of ITV Studios, which is also responsible for "ONE PIECE."

How much the series costs viewers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

Like all Apple Originals, "Guilty Creatures" will launch simultaneously worldwide – viewers in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland won't experience a delayed release. The series will be available exclusively via the Apple TV streaming service, which costs €9.99 per month in Germany. This price remains lower than what Apple now charges in the US ($12.99).

There are several ways to get started: New customers can test the service free for seven days, three free months are included with the purchase of a new Apple device, and Apple TV is included in the Apple One bundle subscription (starting at €19.95 per month). Additionally, there's currently a promotion where Apple TV is available for six months at €4.99 instead of €9.99 per month.

Apple TV's course towards prestige and true crime

"Guilty Creatures" is further proof of Apple TV’s consistent focus on high-profile casts and reliably successful genres – true crime and psychological thrillers are among the cornerstones of its recently suspense-driven programming. The fact that an actress of Julia Garner’s caliber not only stars but also produces underscores how attractive the service has become to top talent from film and television. However, patience will be required before the first episode. (Image: Apple)
