Apple has released the first beta version of iOS 18.3, and many iPhone users are wondering what the new update has to offer. Even though it is a minor update, there are some exciting new features that can make everyday life easier. Below you will find out everything about the release date, the new features and the improvements that iOS 18.3 brings.

iOS updates are an integral part of the Apple world. Some bring big changes, while others mainly contain minor improvements and bug fixes. With iOS 18.3, we can expect a mixture of both. Smart home fans in particular can look forward to an extension that makes your home more intelligent. But it's also worth taking a look at the details for everyone else, because Apple has, as always, worked on optimization.

iOS 18.3 release date

Apple released the first beta version of iOS 18.3 to developers on December 16. Looking at the past few years, the final version is expected to be released at the end of January. Here are some examples:

  • iOS 17.3 was released on January 22, 2024
  • iOS 16.3 was released on January 23, 2023
  • iOS 15.3 arrived on January 26, 2022

Therefore, it is expected that iOS 18.3 will be available to all users between January 20 and 29, 2025.

What's new in iOS 18.3?

Support for robot vacuum cleaners in the Home app

One of the most important innovations in iOS 18.3 affects smart home devices, or more precisely, robot vacuum cleaners. In the future, these can be integrated directly into the Home app and controlled via Siri or automation. This means you can integrate your vacuum cleaner into your daily routine or start it with a simple voice command. The supported functions include:

  • Control of power and cleaning modes
  • Checking the charging status and cleaning progress
  • Integration into scenes and automations

Apple has stated that this expansion lays the foundation for more comprehensive HomeKit support. It will be interesting to see which manufacturers make their devices compatible in the future.

bug fixes

In addition to the new features, Apple has fixed some known issues:

  • Fixed a bug that prevented personalized Genmojis from being created without first selecting another person.
  • Third-party apps that use the Writing Tools API can now fully utilize it, even if no UIView is used.

Small changes and improvements

In addition to the major innovations, there are also some smaller changes that make everyday life more pleasant:

  • The icon of the Image Playground app has been minimally revised.
  • Signing in to the Feedback app is now easier: Face ID and Touch ID are supported.
  • The camera control menu icon in Accessibility settings now supports dark mode.

iOS 18.3: More stable, smarter, better

iOS 18.3 is not a revolutionary update, but it does bring some practical new features. The integration of robot vacuum cleaners into the Home app in particular is likely to delight many users who want to make their home smarter. In addition, the bug fixes and minor optimizations ensure that the system is more stable and user-friendly. With the release at the end of January, you can update your iPhone and benefit from the improvements. It remains exciting to see whether Apple will announce any more features during the beta phase.
