Apple is preparing to introduce two new features with iOS 18.2 that will further improve the user experience on iPhones. Particularly exciting are the Apple Intelligence features “Siri with ChatGPT” and “Visual Intelligence”, which are intended to improve the handling of information and the iPhone 16 camera. These features have already been discovered in the backend of the system and suggest that the beta version of iOS 18.2 will be released soon.

Apple recently dropped new hints about upcoming features in iOS 18.2, which according to Aaron Perris on X (formerly Twitter) have appeared in the backend of the system. These discoveries indicate that two new Apple Intelligence features will soon be available to iPhone users. The two main features are "Siri with ChatGPT" and "Visual Intelligence".

  • As a reminder , due to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), the use of Apple Intelligence is currently blocked on iPhones and iPads in the EU. Apple has therefore imposed a geo-block to comply with the law. Interestingly, however, the feature is already available in the macOS Sequoia 15.1 developer beta (as long as the language is switched to English), since macOS is not considered a gatekeeper platform. Apple is currently in discussions with the European Commission to find a solution that could enable the use of Apple Intelligence on mobile devices in the EU. If an agreement is reached, the new features could be available sooner than previously expected.

Apple Intelligence features in focus

Siri with ChatGPT

Apple announced at this year's WWDC24 that Siri will soon be integrated with ChatGPT. This feature will allow Siri to respond to more complex requests that require real-time information or detailed real-world knowledge. While the standard Apple models will continue to be responsible for simpler requests and personal context, ChatGPT will support Siri with complex and data-intensive questions. For example, you could ask Siri what the latest news is in your area or solve complex math problems. This extension makes Siri in iOS 18.2 more versatile and helpful in everyday and specific scenarios.

Visual Intelligence

Visual Intelligence is another exciting new feature announced alongside the iPhone 16 series. This feature uses your iPhone's camera to recognize real-world objects and offer you practical options based on that information. For example, you can point your camera at a poster and the details it contains will automatically be added to your calendar. The technology is very similar to Google Lens and will enable the iPhone to process real-world information more efficiently. Whether it's identifying objects or integrating information from an image directly into your iPhone apps, Visual Intelligence will offer many new possibilities for everyday use.

iOS 18.2 beta release schedule

According to the latest information, Apple will release the beta version of iOS 18.2 at the end of October at the earliest. iOS 18.1 is expected to be released on October 28th appear, and the iOS 18.2 beta should be available just a few days after that. However, there is also speculation that Apple could potentially release two betas at the same time, similar to what it did previously with iOS 18.0 and iOS 18.1. The recent backend references suggest that Apple is ready to test these new features, and there should be no major delays. The beta phase is expected to begin in November, and the final version of iOS 18.2 could be released to the public as early as December.

Other Apple Intelligence features: Genmoji and Image Playground

In addition to Siri with ChatGPT and Visual Intelligence, iOS 18.2 is expected to bring even more features. One of these features is "Genmoji," which allows users to create personalized emojis in real time based on their own facial expressions or movements. Another feature called "Image Playground" will allow you to work creatively with images by using various tools and effects directly on the iPhone. These new features are aimed primarily at users who use their iPhone for creative work or simply want more control over their digital content.

New features for a smarter iPhone experience

With the upcoming iOS 18.2 update, Apple is bringing exciting new features to the market that will significantly improve the user experience. Siri with ChatGPT and Visual Intelligence promise to make everyday life even more convenient by making the iPhone more intelligent and flexible. In particular, the integration of real-time data and the visual recognition of objects offer many new applications. The release of the beta version of iOS 18.2 is only a few weeks away, and the final version could be available as early as December. (Image: Apple)
