Apple has released the first beta version of iOS 18.2 and brings with it some notable innovations that improve the use of Siri and artificial intelligence on devices. One of the highlights is the deep integration of ChatGPT into Siri and the new AI writing tools. There are also enhanced privacy features that give more control over permission requests. Here are all the important details about iOS 18.2.

iOS 18.2 not only brings numerous improvements but also the freedom to have more control over privacy and permission settings. Apple integrates artificial intelligence (AI) like never before and creates a seamless interaction between Siri and ChatGPT. Users can decide for themselves how and when they use the ChatGPT function.

  • Notice: Apple Intelligence remains blocked for EU citizens on iPhone and iPad devices.

Deactivation of authorization requests

With iOS 18.2 you get the option to simply turn off permission requests from Siri and ChatGPT. In the "Apple Intelligence" menu under Settings you can flip a switch that deactivates these requests. This is particularly useful if you access ChatGPT often and don't want to be asked for permission every time. The only exception is if you want to send files to ChatGPT. In this case Siri will continue to ask for your permission.

Direct ChatGPT requests via Siri

An interesting new feature in iOS 18.2 is that you can tell Siri to send your requests directly to ChatGPT. Normally, Siri answers certain questions itself and forwards others to ChatGPT. However, with the "Ask ChatGPT" command, you can ensure that every request goes directly to ChatGPT. This saves time if you want to specifically use the AI for a complex answer or special requests.

Creating images with ChatGPT

Another useful feature introduced with iOS 18.2 is the ability to use ChatGPT to generate images. You can simply ask Siri to create an image based on your description and ChatGPT will do the job. The system bypasses Apple's Image Playground and uses ChatGPT's AI directly to generate images. This feature is especially useful for creative work where you need visual content quickly.

ChatGPT is disabled by default

After installing iOS 18.2, ChatGPT integration is initially disabled. However, during the onboarding process, you will be asked if you want to enable the feature. This gives Apple control over whether and when you use the new AI features. So if you don't want to use ChatGPT, you are not forced to enable the feature immediately.

Writing original texts with ChatGPT

Another highlight of iOS 18.2 is the ability to compose original texts with ChatGPT. The AI writing tools introduced with iOS 18.1 previously only offered the option of rewriting or formatting existing texts. Now you can use ChatGPT to create new texts from scratch using a new "Compose" button directly in the writing tools menu. This can be useful for notes, creative writing projects or quick text input.

No OpenAI account required

When integrating ChatGPT, Apple made sure that you don't need an OpenAI account to use the feature. If you want to use ChatGPT in iOS 18.2, you can do so directly without having to register. However, if you want to personalize your use or link it to an existing OpenAI account, you can optionally do so in the settings.

Availability of iOS 18.2 Beta

The first beta version of iOS 18.2 is currently available only to developers. To use it, you will need an iPhone 16, 16 Pro, 15 Pro, or 15 Pro Max, as these devices are compatible with Apple's new intelligence technology. A public beta version is expected at a later date. For users who don't want to deal with beta versions, iOS 18.2 is expected to be released to everyone in mid-December.

iOS 18.2: How ChatGPT and new privacy options are changing the iPhone

iOS 18.2 brings some exciting new features, especially in terms of the integration of ChatGPT with Siri and the expanded control over privacy features. The ability to disable permission requests, send requests directly to ChatGPT, generate images and compose texts opens up many new possibilities. When EU citizens will be able to enjoy these new features on iPhone and iPad remains to be seen. Looking for the best accessories?
