The iOS 16.4 beta, which Apple made available to developers on Thursday evening, appears to reintroduce the HomeKit architecture update that was removed in iOS 16.2 due to a number of HomeKit bugs.
In the Software Update section of the Home app, iPhone and iPad users who have not yet updated to the new architecture will see update on iOS 16.4, the option "Home Upgrade Available" appears. There were indications that the HomeKit architecture would be reintroduced as early as January in iOS 16.4, as Apple has been working on it behind the scenes for some time. Apple has prepared an updated version of the update, presumably with fewer bugs that will impact HomeKit users.
HomeKit architecture update: Apple starts second attempt with iOS 16.4
The new HomeKit architecture is designed to improve the reliability and efficiency of communication between smart home accessories and Apple devices and has been under development by Apple since the announcement of iOS 16 at WWDC in June 2022. During its initial rollout, some HomeKit devices were missing from HomeKit setups or stuck in the "Configuring/Updating" state. Additionally, HomeKit sharing invitations failed, and HomeKit Secure Video recording was not available for some devices. (Photo by hadrian / Bigstockphoto)
