The iOS 15.7.1 Release Candidate (RC), released earlier this week, appears to prevent Face ID from working on at least some iPhones, users on Reddit and Twitter report.

Apple released a number of release candidate versions earlier this week, including iOS 15.7.1. Now there are reports that the update can render Face ID unusable. Affected are at least the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro models. However, it is quite possible that other models could also suffer from the update. Affected users who try to reset Face ID on their iPhone receive the error message "Face ID is not available", which causes facial recognition to fail completely. It is unclear what the cause of the problem is or whether Apple is aware of the issue.

iOS 15.7.1 is expected to be released next week

Usually, release candidate versions are identical to the final version of iOS updates. However, it is possible that Apple will release a new release candidate with a patch before iOS 15.7.1 is rolled out to all users, expected next week. Some users are not interested in updating to iOS 16, so it is important that Apple fixes this issue in iOS 15.7.1. There are also some devices that are compatible with iOS 15 but not iOS 16, including the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, first-generation iPhone SE, seventh-generation iPod touch, iPhone 7, and iPhone 7 Plus.
