Apple released the first preview of iOS 15.4 and Co. for registered developers on Thursday evening. Some notable new features were added.
With the release of iOS 15.4, users can add an EU COVID Digital Vaccination Certificate to the Health and Wallet apps by opening the Camera app, scanning the certificate's QR code, tapping the Health app's yellow notification, and tapping the "Add to Wallet & Health" button. Vaccination cards in the Wallet app display the person's name, the type of vaccine, the date each dose was administered, the issuer, and a digitally signed QR code. More detailed vaccination information is available through the Health app.
iOS 15.4 makes it possible: Store COVID-19 vaccination certificate in the Wallet app
The feature is already partially available in the beta version of iOS 15.4. MacStories editor-in-chief Federico Viticci was able to upload his Italian vaccination certificate to the Health app add – but not in the Wallet app. Apple's release notes indicate that EU Digital COVID Certificates issued by Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Cape Verde, North Macedonia, and Palestine also cannot be verified or added to the Wallet app in the iOS 15.4 beta. Apple first introduced the ability to add COVID-19 vaccination records to the Health and Wallet apps in the US with iOS 15.1 and also supports the feature in Canada. With support for EU Digital COVID Certificates, the feature expands to a long list of countries in Europe, including Austria, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, and more.
