Apple released the third preview of iOS 14 and Co. yesterday evening. Some innovations – but there are also indications that point to the iPhone 12 with 5.4″.

According to rumors, Apple plans to introduce four iPhone models in three sizes this year. The smallest is said to be 5.4 inches. Now the US blog 9to5mac that there are hints about the iPhone 12. Based on the display zoom feature currently available on 5.8-inch iPhone models, hints have been discovered that iOS 14 can run on an even smaller screen.

What is the display zoom for?

The so-called display zoom has been present in iOS since the introduction of the iPhone 6. It allows users to enlarge interface elements such as buttons, icons and text. Basically, the feature changes the entire system interface and adapts to the respective iPhone and its size. Example: If iOS is running on a 5.5-inch iPhone, the zoom mode can be adjusted to a 4.7-inch device when activated. On a 4.7-inch iPhone, the zoom would simulate a 4-inch iPhone. By the way: One exception is the iPhone X. The anniversary generation was only available in one size, which is why the feature is not available there. It was activated again in subsequent generations. Apple has now updated the feature in the third beta of iOS 14.

iPhone 12 5.4-inch – the secret iPhone SE 2016 successor?

The function is currently designed for devices with 5.8-inch, 6.1-inch and 6.5-inch screens. But another value has been added in the new preview. Although the code does not name the device, the whole thing can be calculated using the simulated view. The guys at 9to5mac are therefore convinced that the interface is now also compatible with a 5.4-inch device. This should therefore be the smallest model in the iPhone 12 series. The bottom line is that it should be very similar to the old 4-inch iPhone SE. It can be assumed that further clues about the new iPhones will be discovered in the next beta versions. After all, this would not be the first time. New devices have already been partially leaked in this way in the past, including the iPhone XS Max in 2018. (Photo by Eremin / Bigstockphoto)
