Apple is getting closer to launching its new third-party program that will enable tracking of objects and other Bluetooth devices via the Find My app with a new app.
Like TechCrunch reported, Apple released the Find My Certification Assistant app on Sunday presented, designed exclusively for Made for iPhone (MFi) licensees who need to test their accessories with the Find My network. The description on the App Store states:
For use by MFi licensees only. Use the Find My Certification Assistant to test discovery, connection, and other key requirements for accessories you develop that incorporate Find My network technology.
The app allows product developers to test connectivity, sound performance, NFC capabilities, firmware, Bluetooth connectivity, and more. Apple's "Find My Network Accessory Program" was first introduced alongside iOS 14 and iPadOS 14. It allows third-party products to be integrated into the "Find My" app, allowing them to be located directly alongside Apple devices.
iOS 14.5 adds new section to “Find My”
In iOS 14.5, the Find My app has a new section called “Items” added, in which any device integrated with Find My can be located. Apple's own AirTags will likely also be found here once they are released. So far, only a few accessory manufacturers have released a product that works with Find My. In January, Belkin announced the Soundform Freedom True Wireless Earbuds, which feature Find My integration and can be located in the Find My app. Find My can work with any Bluetooth-enabled device that integrates Apple's code via the "Find My Network Accessory Program," so it's not limited to item trackers and can be built into any Bluetooth product. Tile has offered a similar program for some time, allowing accessories integrated into the Tile ecosystem to be located via the Tile app. (Photo by Kaspars Grinvalds / Bigstockphoto)
