Apple has now released the sixth beta of iOS 14.5 and Co. and made a major change to Siri. At the same time, the company has also made improvements in the iPhone battery area.

The US blog 9to5mac has discovered a new tool in the code of iOS 14.5 discovered, which allows iPhone users to recalibrate their battery when it is no longer working as expected. According to the code, the new calibration tool will appear when the iPhone battery's peak performance drops. Interestingly, the code reveals a URL to a support article on Apple's website, which is now live and provides more details about this new feature. Apple expects the new Battery Recalibration tool to help users fix inaccurate Battery Health Report estimates. For an unknown reason, this feature is only compatible with the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max for now.

iOS 14.5, coming later this spring, includes an update that will recalibrate the battery health reporting system to show maximum battery capacity and peak power on iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max to fix inaccurate Battery Health Report estimates for some users. Symptoms of this bug include unexpected battery drain behavior or, in a small number of cases, reduced peak power capabilities. This inaccurate battery health reporting does not reflect a problem with the actual battery level.

iOS 14.5 gives tips if recalibration fails

Apple explains that the battery recalibration occurs during regular charging cycles and that this process can take several weeks. When the recalibration is complete, the maximum capacity percentage and maximum performance data are updated in the Settings app. Based on the iOS 14.5 code, the system recommends that the user take the iPhone to an Apple Authorized Service Provider if the recalibration is not successful. It states:

Recalibration of the battery health reporting system was unsuccessful. An Apple Authorized Service Provider can replace the battery at no charge to restore full performance and capacity.
