Next to a picture of the AirPods Studio References to AirTags and third-party tracking accessories were also discovered on iOS 14.3.

Apple released the first beta of iOS 14.3 today and implemented interesting new features deep in the code. Now 9to5mac is reporting on indications that iOS 14.3 will offer support for AirTags and third-party tracking accessories. The article states:

Based on the internal iOS 14.3 files, we can confirm that the AirTags are still on track to be announced by Apple. The company has captured new videos and images that will walk users through the AirTags setup process - and some of them were previously found by 9to5Mac in a leaked internal iOS 14 build earlier this year.

iOS 14.3: AirTags can be paired with Apple ID

Specifically, there will be a new hidden section in the Find My app. The code name is "Hawkeye". However, this will not only include AirTags but also tracking accessories from third-party providers. This was already announced by Apple at WWDC 2020. This means that users of products such as Tile can also use them in conjunction with the Find My app. The Find My app will guide users to set up their tracking tags and then place them in bags, suitcases, keychains and other objects. These can then be tracked via the Find My network. Users can play audible alerts and also link an AirTag to an Apple ID so that it will not work with another ID if a third party finds it. This way, users can use the AirTag to track their tracking tags and then place them in bags, suitcases, keychains and other objects. is called it in the code:

If you remove this item, someone else can set it up and use it, and it will no longer be associated with your Apple ID.

AirTags: Clues in the code have already been announced

Apple will also provide an easy way for other people to scan AirTags and find out who the lost item belongs to. According to the code, the following description can be found:

Once you turn on Lost Mode, that phone number will appear on an Apple website that others can access to contact you if they find your lost item.

Leaker Jon Prosser has already claimed that iOS 14.3 will include all the necessary functions for AirTags. Although the trackers were expected to be introduced in the fall, Apple seems to be taking its time. It is currently unclear whether the accessories will be released by the end of the year or in early 2021. AirPods Pro on special offer at Amazon – available now. (via Jon Prosser)
