Facebook Lite is a stripped down version of the well-known Facebook app. The company has now removed the application from the App Store.

Facebook Lite was designed to work on devices with poor internet connections such as 2G networks or in rural areas with poor signal. Autoplaying of videos was not supported and high-resolution images could not be downloaded either. In addition, the app was also compatible with older devices as it did not support all features equally. But now the application has been removed from the iOS App Store - the reported the MacMagazine.

No more Facebook Lite on iOS

A Facebook spokesperson made the following statement to the Apple blog:

Due to limited adoption and the improvements we're making to improve people's experiences in our apps, we will no longer support Facebook Lite for iOS.

The slimmed down version of the social media application was released in 2018 along with a Lite version of the messenger, which was initially introduced in Turkey before being expanded to other regions and areas. For comparison: While the main Facebook application requires around 244.7 MB, the Lite version only took up 8.7 MB of storage space. (Photo by Natee Meepian / Bigstockphoto)
