Digital identification is on the rise. After Vodafone Congstar is now following suit with the eID service.

The Cologne-based mobile phone provider Congstar confirmed the introduction of the eID service today in a press release. According to this, users will be able to activate their Congstar prepaid SIM card very conveniently using the online ID function. In addition, mobile phone tariffs from ja! mobil and Penny Mobil can also be activated in this way. The press release:

The Cologne-based mobile phone provider congstar now offers the particularly convenient option of identifying yourself with the online ID function of the new German ID card (also known as eID) to activate a congstar prepaid SIM card. This allows a new prepaid tariff to be activated in just a few minutes. The mobile phone tariffs from ja! mobil and Penny Mobil also have this option. Congstar works with Deutsche Post (POSTIDENT) on the legally and data-secure identification process.

Alternative identification methods remain

In order to use the new procedure, a German identity card (or residence permit) with an activated online ID function is required. If this requirement is met, the user must download the PostIdent app. The customer is then guided through the app until the process is completed. However, Congstar emphasizes that in addition to the eID service, customers can continue to access alternative identification procedures - i.e. via video or in the Deutsche Post branch.
