At the beginning of the year, reports about the alleged Apple Car reached a new high. Now BMW's CFO has also commented on the topic.
As reported by Bloomberg, Nicolas Peter stated in an interview that he sleeps "very peacefully" despite the growing rumors about Apple's plans to build an autonomous electric vehicle. Peter emphasized that competition is a "wonderful thing" and that BMW is well positioned to deal with the increasing competition in the auto industry.
I sleep very soundly. Competition is a wonderful thing - it helps motivate others. We are in a very strong position and we want to remain in a leading position in the industry.
Apple Car with “groundbreaking battery technology”?
BMW is not the first automaker to take a relaxed view of Apple's possible entry into the industry. Last month explained The CEO of Volkswagen said that the company was not worried about an entry of Apple into the car business because it's "not a typical tech sector you can take over in one fell swoop." Cupertino's plans to develop an all-electric and fully autonomous Apple Car were recently detailed in various reports. For several weeks, it looked as if Apple was close to a deal for Apple Car production with Hyundai subsidiary Kia Motors, but these talks ultimately fell through. According to rumors, Apple could begin production as early as 2024 at the earliest—expected to use "groundbreaking battery technology." (Photo by TierneyMJ / Bigstockphoto)
