WhatsApp recently released the long-awaited Dark Mode. While some people imagined the new look to be a little different, the majority of fans are already happy with it. But let's move on to WhatsApp's next plan - security.

What comes after dark mode? In addition to constant performance improvements, new features should also be released. After all, the two billion users have to be kept happy. Here, the Facebook subsidiary has once again opted for security. The well-known WhatsApp blog WABetaInfo reports on a function that relates to chat backups. WhatsApp warns users that chat backups in the iCloud are not part of the end-to-end encryption and this is exactly where the messenger wants to start in the future. Accordingly, a function is now being tested in the current WhatsApp beta that allows backups to be fully encrypted before uploading them to the iCloud. This means that a password should be assigned that can protect the entire content from strangers.

Feature is in early testing phase

WABetaInfo explains that the function is currently only available on Android devices - as always. But it should also be possible to implement it on iOS. Since the feature is in a very early test phase, a timely release is not to be expected. But the approach is interesting, whether this will improve the reputation of the messenger in general remains to be seen. Do you want to read more news about WhatsApp?
