With watchOS 26, the Apple Watch is getting a major update. In addition to general improvements in performance and stability, one new feature is particularly notable: The Apple Notes app is now available directly on the Apple Watch for the first time. This is especially useful for users who want to quickly jot down thoughts or access existing notes while on the go.
Apple Notes used to be a simple application with few features. In recent years, however, the app has evolved into a powerful note-taking tool. The app has long been a standard feature on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and now also on the Vision Pro. It was all the more surprising that the Apple Watch, of all things, didn't have an official Notes app until now. With watchOS 26, Apple is closing this gap.
The Notes app on the Apple Watch: Two functions in focus
The Apple Notes app in watchOS 26 focuses on two main functions: creating new notes and viewing existing ones. It's nothing more than that—but that's just enough for use on your wrist.
- New notes right on your wrist: You can create a new note directly on your Apple Watch. You can do this either through the app itself or via Siri. So, if you're on the go and something suddenly occurs to you, just ask Siri. For example: "Hey Siri, create a new note." You can enter it either by voice or using the scribble feature.
- Access to existing notes: The app also shows you your previously saved notes. You can scroll through your list and read important information directly on the small screen. An editing function for existing notes is not currently included. The primary goal is to be able to quickly capture and retrieve content.
Not a full version – but sensibly reduced
The app is stripped down to the essentials. Advanced features like formatting, attachments, or folder structures aren't included (yet). However, everything works quickly and directly. The stripped-down version is ideal for use on the watch's small display and meets what you really need on the go.

watchOS 26 makes the Apple Watch more productive
The integration of the Notes app isn't revolutionary, but it is a practical advance. Many users have long desired this feature. With watchOS 26, the Apple Watch becomes a bit more independent of the iPhone—at least for simple tasks like capturing thoughts or reviewing information. If you use your Watch regularly, you'll likely quickly appreciate the new Notes app. Especially in combination with Siri, it's one of the most useful new features in watchOS 26.
