Apple Music is expanding its popular real-time lyrics feature with a whole new karaoke mode. This new feature is called Apple Music Sing and "allows users to sing along to their favorite songs with customizable vocals and real-time lyrics." Apple Music Sing is built right into the Music app so "everyone can join in."
Apple Music Sing was announced today in a press release announced. It states:
Apple Music Sing is a new way to hum, rap, jam, or sing along to millions of your favorite songs. New, improved beat-by-beat lyrics make it even easier to follow the music. And with a customizable vocal, you can sing a duet with the original artist, sing a solo, or mix it all together.
Apple Music Sing includes a number of different features, including adjustable vocals, background vocals similar to traditional karaoke, and a duet view. Here are the highlights:
- Customizable vocals: Users now have control over the vocal range of a song. They can sing with the artist's original vocals, take the lead vocals, or remix millions of songs from the Apple Music catalog.
- Real-time lyrics: Users can sing along to their favorite songs with animated lyrics that dance to the rhythm of the song.
- Background vocals: Simultaneous vocal lines can be animated independently of the main vocals to make them easier for users to follow.
- Duet View: Multiple singers are displayed on opposite sides of the screen to make it easy to sing along to duets or songs with multiple singers.

We know our users around the world love following their favorite songs, so we wanted to expand this offering even further to enable even more engagement around music through singing. In addition to Apple Music Sing, Apple Music says it will offer "a series of more than 50 playlists featuring all the epic songs, duets, choruses and anthems that make people around the world sing." Apple Music Sing will launch with support for "tens of millions of songs."
There are no details about the exact catalog but it is believed that these are songs that support Dolby Atmos. This is because Apple has the stems of these songs so that the volume of the voices can be adjusted. Apple Music Sing will be available to Apple Music subscribers worldwide later this month. The feature is supported by all iPhone and iPad models as well as the new Apple TV 4K. This seems to mean that Apple Music Sing will not be available on previous generation Apple TV models.
