Apple is expanding its Self-Service Repair program. You can now repair certain iPad models yourself using official Apple parts, tools, and repair manuals. Diagnostic tools and loaner toolkits are also available. This marks another step toward user-friendliness and freedom from repairs.
For years, Apple has pursued the goal of offering long-lasting devices while simultaneously improving access to repairs. The recently announced expansion of its Self Service Repair initiative will affect the iPad for the first time and is part of a larger plan: to enable customers to perform repairs independently and safely, even outside of the warranty period.
You can now repair these iPads yourself
The Self Service Repair program now supports the following iPad models:
- iPad Air with M2 chip and new
- iPad Pro with M4 chip
- iPad mini with A17 Pro
- iPad with A16 chip
Key components such as the display, battery, camera, and external charging ports are repairable. You can find everything you need directly from Apple.
Apple provides this
If you want to repair your iPad yourself, you will have access to:
- Official repair manuals
- Original spare parts from Apple
- Special tools
- Apple Diagnostics for error analysis
- Rental toolkits if you don't have your own tools
The Self Service Repair program was originally introduced in 2022. It is aimed at users who are tech-savvy and want to perform their own repairs. It now covers 65 Apple products, including the new iPhone 16e, MacBook Air, and Mac Studio.
Also for professionals: Genuine Parts Distributor Program
In addition to the Self Service Repair Program, Apple has also released new information about the Genuine Parts Distributor Program. This program is aimed at independent repair service providers who do not have a direct business relationship with Apple. Through the program, professionals can obtain genuine replacement parts and components for iPhone and iPad repairs from third-party providers. MobileSentrix is participating in the US, and both MobileSentrix and Mobileparts.shop are participating in Europe. What's new is that iPad components are now also available through this program. Available items include displays, batteries, and charging ports. This allows Apple to meet growing demand in the repair market and offer service providers more options.
Apple's repair strategy at a glance

According to Brian Naumann, Vice President of AppleCare, Apple wants to achieve one thing above all: extend the lifespan of its products without compromising on data protection or security.
Apple opens the door to iPad self-repair
