You've probably heard about Apple's latest announcement, the M3 iMac. But for those hoping for a direct successor to the popular 27-inch iMac from the Intel era, there's disappointing news.

The world of technology is constantly changing, and Apple is known for its innovative products and announcements. The move to its own processors, known as Apple Silicon, was a big step for the company. The M3 iMac was recently introduced and got many excited. But what happened to the popular 27-inch iMac? Why is there no successor in sight? We take a closer look at the reasons behind this decision.

No plans for a 27-inch model with Apple Silicon

Apple recently confirmedthat there are no plans for a 27-inch iMac with Apple Silicon. This news has disappointed some who had hoped to upgrade this popular desktop computer. Apple's decision specifically refers to the 27-inch model, but this leaves room for speculation about a possible larger iMac in the future. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman had mentioned in a report that Apple may be planning a 32-inch iMac for 2025. This could mean that Apple is working on a larger desktop computer with Apple Silicon after all, even if it is still several years away. However, there is also the possibility that these plans have been abandoned and will never come to fruition.

Waiting for a larger Apple Silicon desktop

Recent comments from Apple suggest that the new 24-inch M3 iMac is intended as a replacement for the previous Intel-based 4K and 5K models. However, there are differences that may disappoint some users. For example, the M3 iMac's 24-inch screen offers a slightly lower resolution of 4.5K compared to the previous 27-inch iMacs with full 5K resolution. Additionally, the M3 iMac does not feature the high-end Apple Silicon chips found in the more powerful models. This has led some users to believe that a 32-inch iMac with more screen space and power for professional applications would have been a logical addition.

What does the future hold for the iMac?

The future of the iMac remains a mystery, especially regarding the possible 32-inch iMac with Apple Silicon. While Apple has only announced the 24-inch iMac in the Apple Silicon version so far, we will have to wait with bated breath to see what developments will come in the coming years. Nevertheless, Apple remains committed to driving innovation and offering products that meet customer expectations. The decision not to offer a 27-inch iMac with Apple Silicon could have strategic reasons, but only time will tell if a larger iMac will come. (Photo by oasisamuel / Bigstockphoto)
