Lost luggage is one of the biggest annoyances you can encounter when traveling. With its "Find My?" function, Apple has created a solution that supports you in such situations. Since the update to iOS 18.2, numerous airlines have also been cooperating with Apple to make the search for lost luggage even easier.

Imagine arriving at your destination but your suitcase is missing. Instead of panicking, you could easily track the location of your luggage thanks to Apple's new technology. This feature is designed to make life easier for you and the airlines. All you need is your iPhone or other Apple device and the search becomes more efficient than ever.

What is the Find My feature?

The Find My feature is an integral part of Apple's ecosystem. It allows you to locate lost items such as luggage thanks to AirTags. With the update to iOS 18.2, the function was expanded to include the option “Share location”This new feature allows you to create a link that you can share with others. This allows them to see the location of your AirTag or third-party gadgets - i.e. lost items - even if they don't own an Apple device themselves. Important details about the feature:

  • Data protection: The function is fully end-to-end encrypted. This means that only you have access to the location information. Even Apple or accessory manufacturers cannot view your data.
  • Automatic expiration: Shared links expire automatically after seven days. However, you can decide to stop sharing them at any time.

Which airlines support the feature?

More and more airlines are integrating Apple's "Find My" function into their service. There are currently 14 airlines that officially support this technology. These include:

  • British Airways
  • Aer Lingus
  • United Airlines
  • Delta Air Lines
  • Turkish Airlines
  • Air Canada
  • Air New Zealand
  • Austrian Airlines
  • Brussels Airlines
  • Swiss International Airlines
  • Eurowings
  • Iberia Airlines

These airlines have trained their staff to use the "Find My" feature efficiently. If your luggage gets lost, they can use the "Share Where Found" link you created to quickly return it to you.

How does luggage tracking work?

If your luggage cannot be found, you can create a "Share Lost Location" link from the respective AirTag after updating to iOS 18.2 and share it with the airline or other helpers. Here's how it works:

  • Create link: You can generate a location link on your Apple device.
  • Share: Share the link with service staff or other people.
  • Track: Recipients can view the location of your luggage in real time.

The big advantage is compatibility: the links can be opened in any web browser, regardless of whether the user owns an Apple device.

future prospects

The list of supporting airlines continues to grow. Airlines such as Qantas, Virgin Atlantic, Singapore Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are also planning to include the "Where is?" function in their service offering. For you, this means even more options for traveling around the world in a relaxed manner and keeping an eye on your luggage.

Travel worry-free: How Apple's "Where is?" function helps you

Apple's Find My feature sets new standards in the travel experience. Thanks to cooperation with leading airlines, you can be sure that lost items will be found faster and more reliably. With iOS 18.2, you have a powerful tool in your hand that makes travel safer and more worry-free. Keep your software up to date and experience how Apple is revolutionizing your travel. Your luggage will thank you - and you can enjoy your trip in peace. Looking for the best accessories?
