If the rumors are to be believed, Apple will introduce the iPhone SE 3 in spring 2022. But what innovations could the device offer? We have taken a look at all the reports and summarized them below.
According to various analysts and leakers, Apple plans to introduce a new iPhone SE in spring 2022. Clues from the supply chain are fueling the whole thing. But what will the device offer? Let's get started.
Design
Almost all reports say that the new iPhone SE 3 will have the same design as the current iPhone SE. Japanese Apple blog Macotakara and analysts Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young from DSCC believe that Apple's cheapest iPhone will have the same 4.7-inch LCD display with the iPhone 8-like design. This means that the next iPhone SE will have no major design changes, will retain Touch ID in the home button and will probably have a variant of the Starlight and Midnight colors. Major changes, such as the hole design or a notch, are not expected until the fourth generation. There have already been rumors that the next iPhone SE would get a larger 5.5-inch display and a Touch ID side button, similar to the iPad Air 4 or iPad mini 6. But this idea is no longer up for debate. At least not with regard to the third generation of the entry-level model.
processor and memory options
The current iPhone SE uses the A13 Bionic. According to Macotakara and Ming-Chi Kuo, the next generation will feature the A15 Bionic chip, which is also used in the iPhone 13 series. As for storage capacity, there has been no new information on that. The current model is available in 64GB and 128GB. Since Apple just switched the iPhone 13 series to 128GB, the company could follow the same trend with the iPhone SE 3.
Camera
Nothing has been documented regarding the camera either. Since the device is again based on the iPhone 8, it can be assumed that everything will remain the same in the camera area.
5G connectivity
One of the things that all sources agree on is support for 5G connectivity. In June, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo already said that the iPhone SE 3 will have two major upgrades: 5G and a better processor. In October, Japanese blog Macotakara and analyst Ross Young also confirmed Kuo's prediction of a 5G iPhone SE.
When will the iPhone SE 3 be introduced?
In late November, a TrendForce report said that Apple will announce the iPhone SE 3 in the first quarter of 2022, suggesting that the company will hold a keynote in March. These claims have since been backed up by Kuo and other sources.
How much will the iPhone SE 3 cost?
The price is the same as the camera and storage options. There have been no details on this so far, at least. The question is still pretty easy to answer. Since it is the cheapest iPhone, it will probably stay at a starting price of 479 euros. If Apple doubles the storage space and adds 5G at the same time, that would be a real bargain for this phone, even if the design remains the same.
