The time has finally come. Now we can speculate again based on rumors. Below I list all Apple products that could be presented as part of a press release or an event. As always, it could happen, but it doesn't have to.
Anyone who actively follows rumors will have noticed that the number of such reports has risen sharply in recent weeks. This is usually the case when something is actually about to happen. But this time, a special situation must also be taken into account - the coronavirus. Due to this fact, Apple's approach could turn out to be completely different than expected.
The iPhone SE successor: iPhone 9 or iPhone SE 2
It's almost certain that a successor to the iPhone SE will be unveiled in March. While the name remains unclear, the design and specifications are no longer a secret. Apple is reportedly planning to introduce an iPhone with the iPhone 8 design. The device is said to feature the latest A13 chip with three GB of RAM. Like the iPhone 8, this device will also use Touch ID and have a single-lens camera. Observers believe that Apple will present this iPhone as the "iPhone 9" due to its design. Accordingly, they consider the designation "iPhone SE 2" almost impossible. According to various sources, the 4.7-inch device will be available in 64 GB and 128 GB capacities in space gray, red, and silver. The starting price is expected to be $400. Analysts believe that Apple is primarily targeting iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users with this device, as the sixth generation of the iPhone no longer supports iOS 13. A detailed summary on the iPhone 9 / iPhone SE 2 topic can be found below.
The iPad Pro 2020
In addition to the new iPhone for beginners, an update to the iPad Pro 2018 is also expected. According to most reports, there will be an 11-inch and 12.9-inch tablet this time too. While the internals will of course be improved, the biggest change is said to be in the camera area. Rumors suggest that Apple is planning to equip the new fourth-generation iPad Pro with a triple camera system, which will also have a 3D camera system in addition to the usual specifications. This will be based on the well-known Time-of-Flight technology and will go deeper into the area of augmented reality. The same camera module will also be used in this year's iPhone 12 expected. The case design is expected to remain the same, although one source has also suggested a change in this area. According to this, the new iPad Pro 2020 could possibly also have a glass back. But in the case of the iPad Pro 2020, one thing must be noted. The reports surrounding the release date are not all identical. The iPad Pro has been updated every 18 months so far. Accordingly, March would be a suitable date for an update. But there are reports that the device will not be presented until autumn, as it is said to have a mini-LED panel and the upcoming A14 chip. 5G is also said to be used. At the same time, it has already been claimed that mass production has started, albeit under restricted conditions due to the coronavirus epidemic. At this point, I would advise interested parties not to buy the current iPad Pro generation for the time being - if they want the latest model.
MacBook Pro 13-inch
In addition to the iPhone and iPad, a new MacBook is also expected. According to some reports and hints, Apple could update the 13-inch version of the MacBook Pro. At the end of last year, the new MacBook Pro 16-inch was introduced. While the display has been slightly enlarged, Apple has fundamentally redesigned the keyboard - read more here. The update of the smaller version is now expected. The new scissor keyboard is also to be used here. But this is not the only update in this area. Apple is allegedly planning to rework all MacBooks in 2020 to replace the butterfly keyboard with the new scissor technology.
sixth-generation Apple TV
Fans of the small TV box from Apple can also look forward to an update. Although there have been hardly any reports of a new Apple TV model, clues have recently been discovered in the code of the current tvOS 13.4 beta that give us hope. The last update took place in 2017. According to this, a new Apple TV model should now follow that will have more power. With Apple Arcade in mind, an update definitely makes sense. However, concrete details about the new features are unknown. So we can only speculate.
Apple Watch (PRODUCT)RED & new straps
Apple usually releases new Apple Watch straps in the spring. But this time, a new Apple Watch model could follow. According to a leak from Apple's database, the company has an Apple Watch Series 5 model in the (PRODUCT)RED style in store. Specifically, it is said to be an aluminum version. This could be presented together with the new spring collection of straps. Since this has already been the case with iPhones, this is not unlikely.
Powerbeats 4
Of course, the headphones section couldn't be left out. Back in December, hints were discovered in the iOS 13 code that suggested a successor to the Powerbeats 3. Subsequently, more and more code snippets revealed new Beats headphones. A recent entry in the FCC database now confirms the Powerbeats 4. The new accessory will most likely feature the familiar H1 chip and offer features like the "Hey Siri" feature. Longer battery life and improved Bluetooth connectivity are also likely to be part of the update.
iOS 13.4, iPadOS 13.4, tvOS 13.4, watchOS 6.2 & macOS 10.15.4
In addition to the hardware products, the systems are also being updated. All five operating systems are currently being tested in the third preview. In a separate analysis, I've summarized all the new features and mentioned Apple's notes. Based on an announcement in the developer section, the updates are expected in March. Among the new features in iOS 13.4 are iCloud folder sharing, new Memoji stickers, and more. It will also be possible to make "universal purchases" in the App Store. This means that apps for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple TV can now be purchased as a bundle.
New Apple TV Plus content
New content will also be added to Apple TV Plus this month. In addition to new series, the feature film "The Banker" will also be released. While Apple has already confirmed some content, further announcements are not ruled out.
What about AirTags and Co.?
The small trackers called "AirTags" were originally expected in March. However, rumors that Apple won't unveil the new accessories until fall have intensified. Therefore, a March launch is no longer as realistic as initially expected. But if you'd like to learn more, you'll find a summary below.
Apple Keynote in March and the Coronavirus
In addition to new software and hardware, invitations to this year's WWDC 2020 (World Wide Developer Conference) are also expected. Apple has sent WWDC invitations in February and March for the past three years. But due to the coronavirus epidemic, the event is in jeopardy. The March keynote could also be canceled for this reason. Many major events are currently being canceled or postponed. It cannot be ruled out that Apple could also take this step. If there is no Apple keynote this month, we can assume that Cupertino will present the above-mentioned products as part of a press release. Alternatively, the company could also hold a small, closed keynote in one of its own offices. Selected press representatives will be invited. The AirPods Pro have already been presented in this form.
But please note one thing - so far nothing has been officially confirmed. Even if the rumor mill has always been right, things could turn out differently in the end.
