Apple has unexpectedly released its new gaming service Apple Arcade for users of the iOS 13 beta. The official launch will take place on September 19th. We take a quick look at the requirements.
Maybe you could have guessed that Apple would do a pre-launch - but honestly, nobody seems to have thought of it. However, Apple Arcade currently includes 53 different game titles (more to come) and they can all be played offline - thanks Apple. But offline gaming means downloading - which means free device storage is required. Before you panic - No, you don't need as much memory as you might think. The individual Apple Arcade titles are surprisingly very memory-efficient. The currently largest game in the Apple Arcade collection is called "Various Daylife" and comes from Square Enix - the title requires around 3.8 GB of free memory. In second place is the action game "Hot Lava" with around 2.9 GB. The majority of the games require less than one GB of free memory - this means that Apple Arcade even takes devices with low storage space into account - at least so far.
With iCloud synchronization
If you were to download all 53 titles to one device at the same time, it would take up around 49 GB. Since hardly anyone will download the entire library to their devices at the same time, the whole thing seems pretty fair - opting for iPhones with more storage will certainly be more attractive in the future - at least for Apple Arcade subscribers.
By the way, all save games are of course stored in iCloud and synchronized with all devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac & Apple TV). The new service will be available to all Apple users from September 19th. The subscription costs around €4.99 and includes a free trial month - family sharing is also included. Do you want to play with a Playstation or Xbox controller? How it works. (Image: Apple)
