Apple is continuing to expand its production capacity in the US. With the expansion of its American Manufacturing Program (AMP), the company is focusing on local manufacturing, stronger supply chains, and technological advancements. New partnerships and concrete investments demonstrate that Apple has a long-term strategy and is implementing it step by step.

The decision to shift more production to the US is part of a larger trend. Global supply chains are increasingly under pressure, while the demand for modern technology is growing. Apple is responding with a clear focus on regional manufacturing and innovation.

CEO Tim Cook emphasizes that Apple believes in the power of American innovation. Collaboration with new and existing partners is intended to help produce key components locally while simultaneously driving technological development.

New partners strengthen Apple's production network

As part of the American Manufacturing Program, Apple has added several new companies to its network. These include Bosch, Cirrus Logic, TDK, and Qnity Electronics. These partners will manufacture key materials and components for Apple products directly in the USA.

With this expansion, Apple is pursuing several goals simultaneously. Firstly, it aims to create jobs and strengthen its industrial base. Secondly, it seeks to reduce its dependence on international supply chains. Apple plans to invest $400 million in these new programs by 2030.

Part of a larger investment strategy

The current measures should not be viewed in isolation. They are part of a comprehensive investment initiative in which Apple plans to invest a total of around 600 billion US dollars in US manufacturing and innovation over a period of four years.

Existing partners such as Broadcom, Corning, and Texas Instruments have already made significant progress in this area. Companies like GlobalFoundries and Samsung are also key components of this network. Together, they are helping to expand manufacturing capacity in the US and make Apple's supply chain more stable and independent.

Sensor manufacturing: TDK brings production to the USA

A key step within the new partnerships is the expansion of the collaboration with TDK. For the first time, the company will manufacture sensors for Apple directly in the USA. The collaboration between the two companies has existed for over 30 years and encompasses various technological areas.

The focus is on so-called TMR sensors, which are needed, among other things, for camera stabilization in the iPhone. Production in the USA will allow these components to be supplied more quickly and in larger quantities in the future. At the same time, Apple is increasing the proportion of chips sourced from American semiconductor supply chains.

Collaboration with Bosch and TSMC

The cooperation with Bosch is also being further intensified. Together with TSMC, Apple is working on the production of integrated circuits in Camas, Washington. These chips are a key component of modern sensor technology in Apple devices.

They enable functions such as accident detection, activity tracking, and altitude measurement. Production in the USA not only ensures shorter delivery routes but also greater control over critical technologies.

Advances in semiconductors with Cirrus Logic

Another focus is on the development of new semiconductor processes. Apple is collaborating with Cirrus Logic and GlobalFoundries in this area. Manufacturing takes place at GlobalFoundries' plant in Malta, New York.

The new semiconductor process will be available in the US for the first time and forms the basis for various key technologies in Apple products. In this context, Cirrus Logic is developing so-called mixed-signal solutions, which are used, among other things, in Face ID systems.

New materials and technologies through Qnity Electronics

In addition to traditional semiconductors, the focus is also on developing new materials. Together with Qnity Electronics and HD MicroSystems, Apple is working on technologies that are essential for modern electronics.

The focus is on high-performance computers and artificial intelligence applications. The goal is to develop innovations directly in the USA while simultaneously expanding the local production of key components. This also strengthens Apple's technological competitiveness in the region.

Training and development through the Apple Manufacturing Academy

Alongside expanding production, Apple is also investing in training. The Apple Manufacturing Academy was founded in Detroit last fall and is aimed primarily at small and medium-sized businesses.

There, practical training courses are offered in areas such as artificial intelligence, automation, and smart manufacturing. So far, around 150 companies have participated in these programs. The offerings range from in-person training to virtual formats.

Exchange and future topics at the spring forum

Another component of the initiative is the Academy's first Spring Forum, which will take place from April 30 to May 1 at Michigan State University in East Lansing.

The event brings together students, teachers, companies, and industry experts. The focus is on how artificial intelligence is impacting the manufacturing industry and what changes are resulting from it.

Apple's strategy to strengthen US production

With the expansion of its American Manufacturing Program, Apple is consistently pursuing its goal of anchoring its production more firmly in the USA. New partnerships, substantial investments, and targeted educational initiatives are all intertwined to achieve this.
