Apple TV 4K 2025: Will Apple Intelligence be supported?

The Apple TV 4K is about to receive an update. The current generation launched in spring 2022 and runs on the A15 Bionic chip. Now, there are many indications that the new version will not only be faster but also feature hardware equipped for upcoming technologies like Apple Intelligence.

Over the years, Apple has developed the Apple TV 4K into a powerful streaming device. Movies, series, games, and integration with smart home systems make the small box a central device in the living room. The next generation is expected to feature a new processor and more modern wireless technology. This could not only make it run more smoothly but also lay the foundation for new AI features – although these probably won't be available immediately.

A17 Pro instead of A15 – noticeable performance boost

The current Apple TV 4K uses the A15 Bionic, but according to a leak from Apple code, the new model will feature the A17 Pro processor, which is also found in the iPhone 15 Pro. The jump from the A15 to the A17 Pro represents a noticeable increase in CPU and GPU performance of approximately 15 to 30 percent, measured in synthetic benchmarks. This benefits not only apps and the operating system, but especially games with demanding graphics requirements.

New WiFi and Bluetooth chip

In addition to the CPU, a new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip developed by Apple itself will be installed. This could result in more stable connections, shorter loading times, and lower latency, which is particularly interesting for high-resolution streaming and cloud gaming.

Apple Intelligence – theoretically possible, practically uncertain

The A17 Pro is the first A-series chip to support Apple Intelligence. This technology combines on-device processing power with cloud capabilities, enabling AI features such as large language models. The current Apple TV 4K isn't powerful enough for this, but the new processor would lay the foundation. Nevertheless, it's questionable whether Apple will offer AI features on the Apple TV 4K at launch. Many of the existing Apple Intelligence features, such as writing tools, notification summaries, and visual analytics, aren't suited to the use case of a set-top box. However, TV-specific AI features are conceivable, such as jumping directly to a specific scene using voice descriptions or a significantly improved Siri. A revised version of Siri isn't planned for 2026 at the earliest.

Small improvements in detail

The design will likely remain largely unchanged, but there could be practical innovations. One possibility would be a Siri Remote with an integrated speaker that can be located via "Find My." This would help if the remote control disappears behind the couch—a problem that many households are likely familiar with.

Apple TV 4K: Performance update without any major surprises

The next Apple TV 4K is expected to be a powerful, yet unspectacular update. The A17 Pro chip provides significantly more performance and makes the device future-proof, even if Apple Intelligence probably won't play a role initially. With modern wireless technology, improved performance, and possible convenience features, it's well-equipped to play a central role in the living room for years to come. Time for fresh accessories?
