Apple's Magic Mouse has maintained its place on desks around the world over the years. With its simple design and seamless integration into the Apple world, it was the first choice for many. But critics repeatedly complained about weaknesses such as the position of the charging port and the less ergonomic shape. Now a big change is on the horizon: According to reports, a revised version of the Magic Mouse will be released in 2026, setting new standards with touch and voice control.

Since its introduction in 2009, the Magic Mouse has only changed in details. Apple switched from AA batteries to a built-in rechargeable battery, introduced new colors and recently changed the connector from Lightning to USB-C. But the charging connector remained on the bottom - a point that was often criticized. With the new version, Apple not only wants to eliminate such weaknesses but also fundamentally modernize the mouse. According to a Korean leaker just at the right time.

A new ergonomic design

Apple is finally planning to completely redesign the Magic Mouse. The goal is a shape that is more comfortable to hold and does not cause discomfort even when working for long periods. It is particularly noteworthy that the charging port will no longer be on the bottom. This change will ensure that the mouse can also be used while charging - a long-awaited improvement.

New control options

The upcoming Magic Mouse will be able to do much more than before. Report according to Apple is working on a combination of touch, voice and hand gesture control. Touch control enables more precise and intuitive movements directly on the surface of the mouse. Voice commands are also to be integrated, allowing users to control functions without actually having to operate the mouse. Hand gesture recognition, which could be particularly useful for creative applications such as design tools, is also planned. This makes the Magic Mouse a versatile tool for a wide range of requirements.

Technological development in context

The new mouse is expected to launch alongside the "M6" MacBook Pro, which is expected to feature OLED displays. This timing shows Apple's commitment to creating a seamless connection between hardware and software. The redesigned Magic Mouse could play a key role here by further simplifying and modernizing the way you interact with Apple's devices.

Review: What has happened so far

Since its launch 15 years ago, the Magic Mouse has received few updates. The most notable changes were the switch from batteries to a built-in battery in 2015, the introduction of new color options in 2021, and most recently the switch to USB-C in 2024. But the basic design remained the same—until now. The upcoming version will be the first major overhaul since 2009.

Apple's Magic Mouse: An Icon is Redefined

The new Magic Mouse promises a comprehensive upgrade that eliminates many of the weaknesses of the current models and at the same time shines with innovative functions. With its ergonomic design, the possibility of touch and voice control and an improved charging function, it is not only a step forward but a real reboot for Apple's iconic mouse. In 2026, the Magic Mouse will return in a form that better suits modern requirements and expectations - and that is long overdue. (Photo by Masarik / Bigstockphoto)
