Disney+ account sharing

Disney+ has officially introduced a change that makes it harder for you to share your account with people outside your household. In several countries, including Germany, Disney+ now charges an additional fee if you want to share your account. Here you can find out everything you need to know about the new rules and what this means for your subscription.

Disney+ no longer allows you to share your account with someone who does not live in your household for free. In Germany, it will cost you €5.99 per month to add an additional member to your subscription. However, there are some restrictions:

  • Maximum of one additional member per account: You can only add one person outside your household.
  • No additional member for Disney bundle subscriptions: If you use the Disney+ bundle or have purchased your subscription through a third-party provider, you cannot add additional members.

This means that you can only share your account under certain conditions, and Disney wants to ensure that each user pays for the service they use.

Traveling with your Disney+ account

If you are the primary account holder while traveling, you can still use your Disney+ account. If you see the message "This TV does not appear to be in this account's household," you have two options:

  • Select "I'M NOT HOME" to continue accessing your account.
  • Select "UPDATE HOUSEHOLD" if you've recently moved and want to reset the location for your account. A one-time passcode will be emailed to you.

Disney+ wants ensurethat the account is only used in one household, but still allows access when you are on the go.

transfer of profiles

If you add an additional member or want to transfer a profile to another account, you can ensure that your watch history and all settings are preserved. This will make the transition easier if your account structure changes.

Why is Disney+ making these changes?

The changes to Disney+ are a response to the increasing sharing of passwords. Netflix has already successfully introduced similar measures, and Disney+ is now following suit. The goal is to increase revenue while ensuring that an account is only used within one household. Disney+ will analyze your account usage to check whether you are adhering to the new rules.

Where is the program available?

The ability to add an additional member is not only available in Germany. Disney+ has already launched the program in the US, Canada, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, so it is a global step to tighten control over account usage.

Disney+ Account Sharing: What Changes for You

Disney+'s new rules make it harder to share your account with people outside your household without paying extra. You can add a person for an additional fee, but only if you're not using a Disney+ bundle and are subscribed directly through Disney+ pay. If you're often on the go, the service still offers the option to use your account outside your household, but with some security measures like a one-time passcode. Be sure to follow the new rules to avoid potential problems with your account. (Photo by yalcin.sonat / Bigstockphoto)
