MacBook Air & iPad Pro to receive OLED display in 2024

Apple will launch three new products with OLED displays in 2024. According to a new report, Apple is planning new versions of the MacBook Air, 11-inch iPad Pro, and 12.9-inch iPad Pro, all of which will use OLED display technology.

This is the second time that the well-known and reliable display analyst Ross Young makes these claims. His sources indicate that Apple's plans are still moving forward as planned. Apple's goal of converting the iPad lineup to OLED has also been reported several times in the past by other sources. As we have explained in the past, the mini-LED technology currently used by Apple is an alternative to OLED. It is better in some ways and worse in others. Mini-LED screens consist of thousands of small LEDs arranged in multiple dimming zones.

New MacBook Air & iPad Pro models are still two years away

Mini-LED displays can achieve higher brightness than OLED, but local dimming is still not as precise as with OLED. OLED displays also continue to suffer from burn-in. Although he didn't mention it this time, Young previously reported that the iPad Pro and MacBook Air will use an OLED display technology called "tandem stack." This technology can increase brightness, improve display longevity, and reduce power consumption by about 30% compared to conventional OLED panels. Rumor has it that these devices will also feature variable refresh rate displays to further improve efficiency. Interested in the brand-new MacBook Air with the M2 chip?
