Apple's security guide aims to allay AirTag concerns

Morgantown, WV - May 12, 2021: Apple AirTag device laying on screen of iPhone mini smartphone

Apple has released a new personal security guide that explains how customers can protect themselves and their personal information when using AirTags, iPhones, and other products.

Apple has always been proactive when it comes to privacy and security. In the latest website update, Apple is trying to inform its users about to clarifywhat the company is doing to keep them safe and how they can use the features available to protect themselves. The Personal Safety User Guide for Apple Devices is a resource for "anyone who is concerned about or has been affected by technology-facilitated abuse, stalking, or harassment." The guide says it can help users "cut digital ties with those you no longer want to be connected to" and describes the safety features available on Apple products.

Security guidelines primarily apply to devices with newer software

The guide covers a number of areas, such as cases where users have given someone else access to personal information, or when someone has gained access to users' devices or accounts and made changes without permission. In addition to digital security, the guide also covers location-related elements, including the Find My app. It even explains how to quickly use SOS emergency mode on the relevant devices and how to automatically let a friend know that you've arrived home safely. Apple promises that the company will update the guide regularly. Cupertino adds that the guidance primarily applies to devices running the latest version of the operating system, such as macOS 12.1, iOS 15.2 and iPadOS 15.2.
