The Apple Watch Series 7 is officially available today. Now there are increasing reports of missing app icons.
The problem with missing app icons on the Apple Watch Series 7 was first discovered by James Thomson, the developer at Pcalc and Dice. In a tweet, he pointed out the problem and showed what it looks like in practice.
Besides supporting Series 7, have you included nice vector icons in your watch app? Then I hope you like empty icons when your users install your apps today. Doesn't reproduce on Series 7 simulator, works fine on all my other watches. I'm not satisfied.
Apple Watch Series 7: Missing app icons – you are not alone
The lack of icons occurs according to Thomson in all views. Thomson also explains that the simulator in Xcode displays the icons without any problems. It is therefore unclear why the problem occurs, but it is likely related to the new screen dimensions, as the new Apple Watch has a nominally larger screen than the Series 6 and therefore has a higher pixel count.

The issue doesn't seem to be occurring on Apple Watch Series 6 or older models running watchOS 8, at least. This means users will have to wait until Apple responds. watchOS 8 was released alongside iOS 15 on September 20. Changes and improvements to the operating system include new tools for composing and sharing messages, an overhaul of the "Find My" feature, new fitness and health features, a redesigned Home app, Focus mode, several new features in the Photos app, and more.
