iPhone 13 mini: MagSafe charging performance remains unchanged

iPhone 13 mini MagSafe

Frankfurt, Germany - November 17th 2020: A German photographer bought the new iPhone 12 Pro Max with MagSafe accessories, taking pictures of the new features.

While Apple's standard MagSafe charger can typically deliver up to 15 watts of charging power to compatible iPhone models when used with an appropriate power adapter, the iPhone 12 mini was limited to a lower peak power of 12 watts.

As now shown in an updated support document emerges, this limitation remains in place for the iPhone 13 mini. This means that the new mini model is also subject to this 12 watt limit. Given the almost identical case size, it is not particularly surprising that the limitation applies to both devices. An iPhone connected to MagSafe intelligently controls its power consumption to avoid overheating.

iPhone 13 mini: Owners should be aware of limitations

Therefore, even a fully supported model that can charge at 15 watts may spend much of its charging time below that limit to conserve battery. The smaller battery of the iPhone mini models also means they require less energy to charge than larger models. So an iPhone 12 mini or iPhone 13 mini limited to a peak output of 12 watts will not take any longer to fully charge via MagSafe than an iPhone 13 with a 15 watt limit. Still, iPhone 13 mini owners should be aware that the limitation is there. (Photo by ms_pics_and_more / Bigstockphoto)
