Apple Store renovation / New MacBook does not cool reliably

by Milan

A short summary of the news from the last 48 hours. # Holiday Mode

Apple Store – The First of Its Kind

Steve Jobs opened the very first Apple Store on May 19, 2001 in the Tysons Corner Center in McLean, Virginia. Now the store is being renovated for the first time in over 17 years. MacRumors was able to view the construction documents submitted by Apple. The company intends to make major changes. An exact renovation date is not yet known.

MacBook Pro 15” – Cooling too weak

Recently, there have been increasing reports that the new MacBook Pro has a cooling problem. If you want to export a large video project on the device with Core i9, it takes longer than with its predecessor. Due to excessive temperatures in the hexacore, the CPU throttles down significantly below the base clock speed. The chip should actually clock at 2.9 GHz to 4.8 GHz, but instead it heats up to 100 degrees and then throttles down to 2.2 GHz. This was discovered by Australian YouTuber Dave Lee. AppleInsider suspects that the problem was caused by a promise from Intel. They promised Apple back in 2016 that future processors would produce significantly less heat. Since the Core i9 has the same 45 watt TDP as the 2017 model and Apple believed Intel, the casing was not changed. The result is that adequate heat dissipation is now not possible. Apple could increase the speed of the fan or lower the base clock of the processor with a firmware update, which would mean that the throttle would be activated less often and the clock speed would be higher on average.
