A new Apple TV is apparently imminent. According to recent clues from Apple code, the next generation of the streaming box will be equipped with the A17 Pro chip. This processor, originally developed for the iPhone 15 Pro, promises a significant performance boost over the current model. A market launch is planned for later this year, possibly alongside the new iPhone models.
Speculation about an updated Apple TV has been rife for months. There's been repeated talk of a more powerful A-series processor, which could be introduced in 2025. Until recently, it remained unclear which chip would actually be used. The code discoveries that have now surfaced clearly point to the A17 Pro. For the current Apple TV 4K with the A15 Bionic, this represents a major leap in performance, graphics performance, and feature set.
A17 Pro chip brings more performance and new possibilities
The A17 Pro is one of the most powerful chips currently used by Apple. It's found not only in the iPhone 15 Pro, but now also in the iPad mini 7. In Apple TV, it provides faster app launches, smoother navigation, and support for demanding applications. It also enables the integration of Apple Intelligence, allowing AI features to run directly on the device.
Console-quality gaming
With the improved GPU performance of the A17 Pro, the Apple TV becomes significantly stronger in the gaming space. Console-like games with sophisticated graphic effects are supported, which could make the streaming box a serious gaming platform. This puts the device more in the spotlight for users who want to experience gaming in the living room alongside movies and series.
Better connectivity
In addition to pure processor performance, the new model will feature an Apple-developed Bluetooth and Wi-Fi chip. This means more stable connections, higher transfer speeds, and overall more reliable network connections – especially important for high-resolution streaming and online gaming.
Possible release date
The launch date for the new Apple TV hasn't yet been officially confirmed. Industry insiders believe it could be in September, alongside the new iPhone models. However, there's also the possibility that Apple will postpone the launch until later in the year.
Apple TV grows beyond pure streaming
The upcoming Apple TV with the A17 Pro chip could deliver the biggest performance boost in the product line's history. In addition to faster operation and AI features, gaming will particularly benefit. Combined with improved networking hardware, everything points to the Apple TV becoming more than just a streaming box—it's evolving into a powerful entertainment center for the living room.
