Citing sources within the music industry, Hits Double Daily reports that Apple is preparing to unveil a new HiFi Apple Music tier in the “coming weeks,” to coincide with the release of the third generation of AirPods.
Dem report According to the report, the new tier, which will offer high-fidelity music streaming, will have the same price of $9.99 per month as the current individual tier. Spotify, Apple Music's closest competitor, has announced that later in 2021, Spotify users will be able to "enhance their sound quality to Spotify HiFi and hear their favorite songs the way the artists intended." The report states that an announcement of the new Apple Music tier and the launch of the third-generation AirPods will come in the "coming weeks." Apple plans to hold its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 7.
Apple Music with Hifi level could be a deal-breaker
While no hardware was announced at last year's developer conference, hardware announcements at this year's software-focused event are indeed possible. The third-generation AirPods are expected to have a design similar to the AirPods Pro. However, certain "Pro" features, such as active noise cancellation, will be missing. Apple Music with HiFi could be announced in iOS 14.6, which is already in its second beta. However, there are no clues in the code yet to suggest the feature. If Apple were to launch a HiFi tier at the current price, it could be a deal-breaker in competition with other music streaming services. So, as always, the whole thing remains exciting.
