Apple has been working on a foldable iPhone for some time now. Now there's new, concrete information about the current status. While the iPhone 17 hasn't even been released yet, preparations are underway behind the scenes for a completely new device, scheduled for release in 2026: the iPhone Fold. A well-known leaker has now published current specifications, providing more detailed information about the display, camera, and construction for the first time.
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently stated that Apple is still fine-tuning many specifications for its first foldable iPhone. This assessment has now been confirmed by a new leak from Digital Chat Station on Weibo. He also provides technical details about the prototype, which are said to have come from internal testing. While the iPhone Fold is still in development, some key features have apparently already been finalized.
Display: 7.58 inches inside display
According to the leak , the iPhone Fold will have a 7.58-inch foldable internal display. This size is slightly lower than previous specifications; for example, Kuo spoke of approximately 7.8 inches. Compared to existing foldables from other manufacturers, this is quite compact, suggesting that Apple is positioning the device between the iPhone and the iPad mini. When unfolded, according to a rendering, it looks like a smaller iPad mini.

Cameras: Two 48-megapixel lenses
The iPhone Fold is said to feature two 48-megapixel cameras on the back. This is logical, as Apple's current plans call for all rear cameras on the iPhone 17 Pro models to be upgraded to 48 MP. It's likely that the iPhone Fold will also feature a wide-angle and an ultra-wide-angle lens. However, there's also the possibility that Apple will install a telephoto lens instead of the ultra-wide-angle lens. No further details are available yet.
Housing and hinge
The iPhone Fold's casing is said to be made of titanium, similar to the Pro models of current iPhones. According to the leak, the hinge uses a special composite material: amorphous metal glass. This material is durable, flexible, and resistant to wear. Apple hopes to ensure the durability of the folding mechanism – a weak point in previous foldables from other manufacturers.
The iPhone Fold is taking concrete shape
The iPhone Fold hasn't been officially announced yet, but there are now concrete hints about what it might look like and what it might be capable of. With a 7.58-inch internal display, two 48-MP cameras, a titanium casing, and a robust hinge material, Apple apparently wants to deliver a reliable and high-quality entry into the foldable smartphone market. The launch is currently planned for fall 2026. If you're excited about a foldable iPhone, it's worth keeping an eye on developments. More details are likely to emerge in the coming months – but one thing is already clear: Apple is seriously and purposefully working on an iPhone Fold. (Image: Shutterstock / hurricanehank)
